They’re here!  Oregon Hill notecards are on sale now.  All profits benefit SynerGeo, Oregon Hill’s organization that brings free and low-cost art programs and activities to area children.  The card design, Oregon Hill Seasons, features photos of Oregon Hill in each of the four seasons, taken by Tess Shebaylo.  A set of notecards would make a great holiday gift and since they also support a good cause, you can’t lose.

Price: $15 for a set of 12 notecards with envelopes.
To purchase: Email shebaylo.tess [at] gmail.com.  You can arrange to pay via cash, check, or Paypal.  If you live in Richmond, you can come and pick the cards up if you’d like, or we can ship them.  If you live in Oregon Hill, we can deliver the notecards at no extra charge.

We at SynerGeo are having our October Community Dinner this coming Monday, October 18th.  It’s a potluck, so bring a dish if you can.  It starts at 6pm.  Hope to see you there!

SynerGeo would like to invite you to our monthly community dinner.  It’s this Monday, September 20th at 6pm.  We like for our neighbors to come, share food, and have great conversation.  It’s potluck style, so we encourage everyone to bring a dish, but you won’t be turned away if you are unable to bring one.

Class size is limited so register your child as soon as possible if you want them to attend!  By registering for the class you are committing to send your child each week. We are excited about our fall programs and study of Middle Eastern art!

Michael Anthony “Mad Dog” Brown

Michael Anthony “Mad Dog” Brown died on July 27, 2010 at his Oregon Hill home in Richmond, Virginia. Born September 21, 1958 in Ohio, he was preceded in death by his parents and a son and is survived by a daughter and siblings. Quick to tell a story or share a laugh, he enjoyed blue grass music and living simply.

Visitation will be held at the SynerGeo building located at 349 South Laurel Street on Wednesday, August 4 from 5-7pm. A burial service will be held at Riverview Cemetery on Thursday, August 5 at 1:00pm with a reception following at Pine Street Baptist Church.

Much gratitude is extended to Angelus Funeral Home, Ms. Lewis, the Medi Hospice team and the Oregon Hill community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to SynerGeo or the Oregon Hill Baptist Center food pantry.

SynerGeo is offering several free children’s camps this summer:

• Pottery Camp, July 12- 15, 9am-1pm.  Bring a bag lunch.  Learn basics in handbuilding, coil building, and make a cartouche.
• Space Imaginarium Camp, July 12- 15, 9am-1pm.  Bring a bag lunch.  Participants will create their own universe and planets as well as beings and costumes.  We will end with an alien banquet on the 23rd.
• Music Around the World Camp, July 26-29, 9am-1pm. Bring a bag lunch.  We will learn about and make these instruments: rainsticks, udu, didgeridoo, and shepherds pipe.
